Other VenturesPapa Red BeardPapa Red Beard is the new voice of modern poetry, and of the universe itself. His poems are delicately placed against the backdrop of the brilliant scores of his composer and producer, Whispering Willow. His recordings are best used for the purpose of calming the soul, and getting a tranquil night's rest. Local/RegionalThe following bands, singer/songwriters, and musicians are folks that have shared the stage with us or have joined our band for a night or two. Some were friends before we did anything musically together, and others we have met along the way of our journey as Starlite Radio. One thing we all have in common is that we live in the same town (Rockford, IL), or pretty close to it. We hope you find some new music to enjoy. Shawn StonesiferShawn has been playing the piano and accordion with us since 2006. We've always admired his talent and style, and we're privileged to have him play piano on our first album, 22 Blackbirds. He writes his own songs, and is currently composing music for a sci-fi video game being released in the near future. Paul RedelWe've known Paul since early 2000 and have played in various groups with him. We were fortunate to have Paul do many of the electric guitar parts on our first album, 22 Blackbirds, including the guitar solos on You Are The Episode and The Winter Moon Is Fading. He currently lives in Nashville playing guitar for Eric Wilson and Heather Bond. Ben TuulaWe met Ben through Paul and quickly discovered how talented he was playing guitar (right and left-handed), piano, accordion, and singing. He's been a great asset to the Starlite Radio extended family. You can catch Ben playing with us live or with his cover band, Frontiers. Nate and Alissa EieslandNate and Alissa are the most recent members of the Starlite Radio extended family. We have also shared the stage their band, Scattered Trees. Their music is beautiful to say the least, and one of Nate's songs, Sparrow, was chosen as the first track of a Starbucks compilation back in 2007. Dan McMahonWe would say Dan is part of the Starlite Radio extended family, but it is probably more accurate to say we are part of the Dan McMahon extended family. Dan plays with just about everyone in the northern Illinois and Wisconsin music scene, and is an all-around talented musician and songwriter. Emily HurdEmily is a talented singer/songwriter and performer who has been recording her music since 2005. Jordan played bass on her most recent album, Daytime Fireflies. :: Emily Hurd's Official Web Site Jacob RonanJacob is one of our close friends who is the music director for our church. His music is what we call liturgical post-rock featuring ambient guitars and melody-driven piano. Jordan and David have both been working with Jacob on his upcoming EP. Eric ArndtEric has been one of Nathan's close friends from his hometown, Tulsa, Oklahoma. They both have played in bands together including The Hero Factor when it first began in 2001. Eric is now fronting his own band, Refund Division, who released his first EP in 2010. Brian RigginsBrian won our hearts in the early days of Starlite Radio when he opened up for us many times at some of the local Rockford coffee shops. We have been a fan of his music ever since. Other bands we like from the Rockford/Chicago area:Some of Our InfluencesThe list of our musical influences could go on and on, but for this list we wanted to focus on a few names that you might not have heard before. Each one has had a profound impact on our music. Don and Lori ChafferDon and Lori Chaffer are two of the best songwriters from the midwest that many people don't know about. They started out in the indie Christian-rock scene during the nineties, and have branched out to a larger audience since 2000. We had the privilage of hiring Don to mix our first album, 22 Blackbirds, and we hope to do more work with him in the future. Over The RhineKarin Berquist and Linford Detweiler of Over The Rhine have by no doubt influenced Nathan and Jessica's songwriting. OTR's music accompanied many date nights during Nathan and Jessica's courtship, and many dates were shared at an OTR concert. They are another couple we hold as some of the best songwriters from the midwest.
